== == === Channel-Estimation-Based vs Coherent Beamforming === == ==
Oprettet fredag 19 juni 2026
Massive MIMO and beamforming are important wireless techniques on the road to 5G. In this post, I'd like to explore the basic concepts behind beamforming using Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antennas. Figure 1 shows a single-input single-output (SISO) wireless channel from a base station antenna to a mobile user equipment (UE). If multiple antennas are used at the base station, in the downlink, their respective transmit signals may be aligned so they combine constructively when they arrive at the UE—this is the basic idea of beamforming, which is illustrated in Figure 2. In the uplink, similarly, receive beamforming refers to the operation where the multiple receive signals are properly aligned and combined at the base station. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/channel-estimation-based-vs-coherent-beamforming-chris-ng/
